We have enough oil to last until 2030 … in the best case scenario … and this is supposed to be good news? This is what Forbes — the “capitalist tool” — is reporting. Why are we not quaking in our boots, scrambling to find every additional potential energy resource?

Wouldn’t a decent capitalist be concerned about this? We’re talking about an optimistic projection of running out of fuel before a long-term bond matures, before the mortgage is paid off, before the Baby Boom has finished retiring, and this is supposed to be okay?

I thought the conservative take on all this was supposed to be that we don’t need to start worrying yet because we’ve got fuel for the next century. Apparently, that’s wrong, and yet still no one is concerned. Big Oil is surely aware of this, and yet instead of reinvesting its record profits in new energy technologies, it’s trying to keep those profits quiet, passing the proceeds on to investors, and marching on toward its inevitable doom.

If this is what the conservatives are projecting, what should the moderates be doing? Clearly the liberals should be calling for impeachment of their oil-baron president, and indeed, that’s what they seem to be doing, but shouldn’t the moderates be doing something as well, besides, I don’t know, buying a Prius? Last time I checked, a Prius still needs gas.
