Vintage Word Munger

I found some old pictures and at the risk of merciless mockery I thought I’d scan them and post them here.

This is my dad and me about to head off for a 120-mile hike across the Pasayten Wilderness in Washington State, back when I was in the 8th grade. We had many hijinks on that trip, including nearly running out of food. I’ll never forget eating dinner after the hike at the Denny’s in Omak, Washington, the first “real” food we’d had in two weeks. After we finished, Dad grinned and asked “are you still hungry,” and I grinned back at him. We each ordered and consumed an entire second meal.

This is me about halfway through the legendary STP — the Seattle to Portland bike ride — during my college sophomore summer. 200 miles in two days! Dig those specs!

UPDATE: Why do I suddenly have that ’70s Nair jingle running through my head: “Who wears short shorts? / If you dare wear short shorts, Nair for short shorts … “?
