I daydreamed a lot about the “future” when I was a kid in the 1970s, but whatever I thought the world would be like in 2007, I don’t think I ever imagined I’d be making money writing articles that could only be read using a computer, supported by advertisements for paint sales:

Thanks for the giggle, Dave.
I never dreamed I’d be involved in, um, exactly such a thing, either. Then again, I do vividly remember when I was a young teenager, kind of wanting to be in a band but not having any musical talent, kind of realizing that I was into writing but that writing wasn’t all that sociable and had a great deal less rock-star potential, and wishing that writing could proceed in a more sociable and yet decentralized way, perhaps a la the indie-rock/small-record-label model. (Yeah, I was an intense 14-year-old.) And then, bam, the internet happened. And it kind of came true, only with more paint sale ads than I had once imagined.
Yeah, I mean, who imagined in the future you’d need something as mundane as paint? Wouldn’t they have some kind of holographic pigmentation for buildings by then? You know, to go along with our flying cars?
