Professors are worried about students plagiarizing essays about Emily Dickinson’s “Because I Could Not Stop for Death.”
Here’s an idea: come up with an original paper topic and maybe your students will write original papers.

No kidding.
Yup. Stop teaching the same old shit.
My sis (a high school English teacher) sent me the 9th grade honors English curriculum for my son. Get this: they’re still teaching A Separate Peace. So many great works of literature out there, and they insist on trotting out that old dog.
HA hahahahahahahaHAAA!
See, here’s the problem. Teaching new shit actually requires WORKING and not complaining about the fact that you signed up for a job where you have to read a bunch of CRAP that kids write while they learn how to read, write, and THINK.
(I’m a high school teacher, I can totally point and laugh at my colleagues.)
I {heart} Word Munger. Big air kisses! *mwah*
Michele, je t’aime aussi!
I do think it’s okay to complain, as long as you actually, y’know, do your job!
As someone who lasted exactly one year teaching freshman comp, I’m not sure I have the right to complain. But I can say I never repeated an essay topic …
And Anne, when are we going to get a baby update on Fernham? (no rush, but I did happily notice you’re back online!)
Soon, soon, soon. She is an angel. I still have to finish grading from the spring. And we’re *moving* this week (just six blocks away)…
She loves being awake from 4AM to 8AM… I don’t. Still, she’s a gem.
