Just got this e-mail from NARAL pro-choice America:

South Dakota’s ban is just the beginning.

• Twelve more states have considered similar bans - Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia are considering or did consider statewide abortion bans of their own during this legislative session.
• Ohio is even proposing a ban that would also make it a crime for anyone to even accompany a woman to her doctor another state for abortion care.

You can visit their site to check what legislation is pending in your state, and send letters of protest to governors and other lawmakers. There is also a form to e-mail friends about the problem.

Rachel S. at Alas, A Blog is following the story of the Duke lacrosse team’s racially motivated gang-rape of a dancer they hired for a party. To me the most sickening aspect of this episode is the way ABC covered it like a sports story:

The scandal has shaken the decorated lacrosse team during the height of its season. The university has already forfeited two games in response to the ongoing investigations, including Tuesday’s game against Mount St. Mary’s.

Orac has a depressing post about how science teachers in Arkansas are self-censoring what they teach, avoiding the “e-word” and any mention of how old rocks are. Sad.
