about this siteI was motivated to create this site by the cognitive dissonance that I experienced over the course of the 2003 Iraq war. Though in the end I wasn't directly affected by the war itself, I felt simultaneous guilt over not doing more to address the important global problems the war presented, and guilt due to my own inability to remain focused on professional and personal priorities I had set long before the war began. After expressing some of those sentiments in my essay War Conference, I began to wonder whether others shared the same confusion, whether sharing a different perspective might help bring focus to the conflicting thoughts we have about the war. This site collects recollections about the war in Iraq. The site was inspired by my own experience, which I've attempted to document in my essay War Conference. Eventually I hope to catalog a variety of memories and reflections on the war, in the hopes of offering a representative description of the war's impact, both in the U.S. and around the world. This is a non-commercial venture. It is hosted by Commontext.org as a public service, and maintained by me as a personal endeavor to make some meaning out of the war in Iraq. All submissions are copyrighted by their creators--this site doesn't make any money for me. The only thing I ask is that persons interested in making a commercial product out of the materials on this site contact me as a matter of courtesy (of course they would also need to contact the rightsholders of the materials as a matter of law). --Dave Munger |
