In the 10 years from 1994 to 2004, the predicted “doomsday” for Social Security moved from 2029 to 2042 — 13 years! If this trend continues, Social Security’s doomsday will keep moving farther into the future. We’ll never reach it. Make sure to read Amp’s whole article.
That said, I still think the payroll tax is too high, and too regressive. Maybe we should decrease the tax at the lower income levels, then increase the cutoff point (currently you don’t have to pay the tax after the cutoff at $97,500) to compensate for the lost revenue.
