Now we’ve been BoingBoinged!

This could be bigger than the NY Times article.

(And don’t worry, Chad, this time you got mentioned, too!)

Great, great, great! Very exciting news here and with the NYT, too! I’m so happy for you guys. And I think it’s an interesting development for blogging more generally, too.

I don’t expect my little blog to be pulling in the cash any time soon, but then, well, one never does know….

in any case, it seems like the moniker “professional blogger” is rapidly growing in cachet.

    Kudos to you & Greta!

    Thanks, Anne–

I’ve been pinching myself a lot lately. Things are really looking up for the “professional” part of my blogging life.

    BUT–

We’ve still got a long way to go. I finally installed a stats package on the new site yesterday, and it’s still getting considerably less traffic than the old site. We don’t have the inertia of all the old links to the old site yet. A Google search to Cognitive Daily lists the old site first. In fact, according to Technorati, there are still more links to Word Munger than the new CogDaily (though people link to CogDaily at a much higher rate).

The Seed Magazine project is funded by venture capital, and so it could get shut down really at any time. It hasn’t earned a dime yet (though hopefully they’ve gotten a few subscribers with all those house ads on the blogs).

I do think the new site is likely to overcome all these odds. As soon as I get some help from the tech support folks at ScienceBlogs (who are still overwhelmed with just getting the site up and running), I’ll move the archives over from the old site, which should give us a big boost. At that point, it’s really up to Seed to make this thing work. They do seem to “get it,” so I’d say we’ve got a decent chance of making it.

I don’t have any stats stuff installed (I spend enough time futzing around with the blog as it is, I don’t need to add numbers to the mix), but my rough impression based on the number of comments I’m getting is that the traffic level is probably about the same as what I had at the steelypips address, or maybe a bit higher. I assume we’ll get some stats from the people at Seed when payday rolls around, so we’ll see what happens then.

I also noticed the slow creep of links on Technorati, but given how bad I am about updating my templates, I can hardly complain. I think I’ve got some sites on the steelypips blogroll that have been defunct for close to a year.
